Identifying basic parts of the computer.

Overview/Annotation:

Second grade students will view a teacher-made multimedia presentation introducing the basic parts of a computer and storage devices. The second grade students will identify the parts by pointing to the correct answer provided in the presentation.

Background/Preparation:

Procedures/Activities:

1.) The teacher will demonstrate proper posture at the computer.

2.) The teacher will show PowerPoint presentation introducing what a computer does.

 3.) After the PowerPoint presentation, the teacher will review the correct names and functions of the computer parts and storage devices with students.

 4.) Using the attached worksheet, students will match the computer names to the correct picture.

5.) While students and teachers are using the computers, discuss the proper care and use of the equipment. (Press the keys not hit, no food or drinks around the computers, keep fingerprints off the screens, don’t drop the computers, watch for cords, let teachers shut the computers down, etc.)

6.) Teachers may choose to use the worksheet printed from the following Web site for additional help with computer hardware names. The website is blocked at school, but the worksheet can be printed at home.

7.) Teacher will continue to use the PowerPoint presentation wherever needed.
