NOTES:
It is important to determine if the passage
is on grade level or below. If I am assessing a 6th grader and want to see how
he/she is reading on a sixth grade level I use a passage on that level. If the
student is reading below grade level do I give him/her the sixth grade
passage? One must remember PURPOSE. Is
my purpose to compare him with other sixth graders when I already know he is
reading below grade level or is it to see if he/she is making progress? This is
where I have them read on their instructional level. To build my fluency rate I
must practice where I am or slightly higher.
