Tips for the Monthly Walk Through

(ARI Leadership Notebook)

 

What: A procedure for school leaders to use as they make brief classroom visits to gather information and reflect on the progress being made in the school.

 

Includes 3 parts:

1.    Preparation:  Decide on expectations for which to look.

                                                             i.      Decide on what information each participant will gather

a.    Teacher- directed instruction

b.    Student Independent work

c.     Teacher records

2.    Classroom Visits: Spend about 10 minutes in each room.

1.    Look for visible evidence of SBRR

3.    Reflection: Discuss results of classroom visits

                                                             i.      Decide on areas for growth

                                                           ii.      Make plans to address areas of growth

 

Walk Through Evidence

Expectation 1: Focus instruction on the five essential components of instruction. (Comprehension, Vocabulary, Fluency, Writing, and Phonics/Phonemic Awareness)
