Meridianville Beginner Band, Intermediate Band,

Advanced Band and Band Parent Information

A winning tradition starts with a winning attitude. As parents, band members, and band director; all of our efforts need to be directed toward creating a positive opportunity for the young men and women in our band program. This opportunity starts with an understanding of the requirements for participation in band. The following information explains expectations for band members.

Band is offered as a fine art elective at Meridianville Middle School. Because a fine arts program centers on performance, our band program centers on performance. Our band program is designed to provide instrumental fine arts through the media of concert performances.

Students participating in band will be required to participate in all scheduled rehearsals, performances, and competitions, which are summarized below. In addition, students are required to practice individually each week and will be required to perform music individually for the director.

   A. Students are required to play their instruments every day. They receive a

                        grade for participation in class.

    B. Food, candy, gum, drinks, etc., are NOT allowed in the band room, on the buses,

in the stand at ballgames, during a performance, or any other function involving

the band while they are at a performance.

    C. Students are allowed to put their instruments in the band room before the

Homeroom bell. All students are allowed to get help, practice, or play their

Instrument before 1st period if they so desire. Students not currently enrolled in band will not be

permitted in the band room.

    D. The playing of another student’s instrument is not allowed. No one is allowed to

enter another student’s instrument case for music, cleaning materials, reeds,

oil, straps, etc.

    E. Students are required to keep their instruments in good playing condition at all

times and make any necessary repairs in a timely manner that would keep the

instrument in playing condition.

    F. Students are required to be in the band room when the tardy bell rings.

    G. Music will be furnished and distributed by the band director. Students are

responsible for their music and must return the music at the end of each

semester to receive a grade in band for that semester. All lost music must be

paid for before additional music will be handed out or, in the case of report

cards, before a grade will be given for band.

H. Students will sit in assigned places in the classroom, stadium (football games),

contests, and performances.
