Mrs. Poarch is working hard at cataloging some new books to be put out
on the shelves for our students. |
The Library has an area designated for the WWWW-- World Wide Word Wall.
This web contains many new words for students to learn. A definition
and an example of how the word is used in a sentence is under each new
Word of the Week. |
The library has a Student Supply Store that is open to all students from
7:45am-3:30pm. We sell notebook paper, pencils, pencil lead, pens,
erasers, highlighters, and much, much, more! Come by and see what
we have to offer! |
We have many books in our Fiction area of the library. We are constantly
adding new and donated titles to our collection so that our students will
have a variety of books to read. |
The library has 8 computers that students can use throughout the day to
take AR (Accelerated Reader) tests. Internet access is also available
through these and other computers in the library.
|
We love to display the work of our students in the library. Some
of the teachers have given book projects in the form of "Cereal Box Book
Projects". Students decorate cereal boxes to describe and summarize
the book they have read. Their work can be seen on the tops of many
bookshelves. |
Scoop up a new AR book from our "New Releases" book table. When new
books are entered into the computer and ready for reading we display them
for students. |
Students can check out up to three books at a time here at MMS. We
are constantly adding new titles to our collection so that students
have a large variety of titles to check out. |
We
are on a "flex" schedule in the library. This means that teachers
can sign up for times to bring their classes in to do research, read, or
work on projects. Students are also allowed to come in, any time
of the day, individually or in small groups to take AR tests, study, check
out books or read in our cozy reading area as a reward from their teacher. |
Students may use our online catalog to search for books by the title, author,
subject, AR reading level, or by the AR points. We currently have
2 search stations, but we will be adding at least one more by next school
year. |
At the beginning of the school year Mrs. King teaches all students how
to use the library search stations during Library Orientation Classes.
Students are able to see how to search a topic, book, author, genre, or
subject by watching and participating. The big screen TV is used
to teach various lessons pertaining to the Athena software, AVL, and Internet
searching techniques. |
