Mr. Tom Highfield
Principal of Meridianville Middle


 

Mr. Tom Highfield was born and raised in Dekalb County, Alabama.  He graduated from Sylvania High School and completed his Associates’ Degree at Northeast State Junior College.  After which he attended UAH and completed his bachelor’s degree in Biology, Comprehensive Science, and Secondary Education.  He has completed graduate work at Alabama A&M that has lead to a Master’s Degree in Comprehensive Science and School Administration, and an AA certification in Comprehensive Science. 
Mr. Highfield has been married to his wife Carol, a teacher at Hazel Green Elementary School, for eighteen years.  They have two children, Casey 15 and Andrew 9.  Mr. Highfield and his family are members of the Huntsville Christian Church.  He spends much of his spare time with his family but is an avid sports fan and stills plays basketball regularly. 
He began his professional teaching career at Riverton School as a 7th/8th grade science teacher in 1985.  After spending ten years at Riverton Mr. Highfield became the assistant principal at New Hope High School (K-12) in 1995. When the school split two years later he became the principal of the elementary school (K-8) in 1997. He transferred to Meridianville in the summer of 2003 after six years at New Hope Elementary.  He is proud to be at Meridianville and plans to continue the tradition of excellence.
