STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
ACE PROGRAM
The ACE Program is for gifted
students. Students are referred to this program by teachers and student
testing.
ANNUAL/YEARBOOK STAFF
The Yearbook staff is sponsored
by Sherry Lenoir and Melissa Mann. The yearbook members are responsible
for putting our yearbook together by taking pictures, editing, and doing write
ups. They are also responsible for fundraisers that help pay to have the
yearbook published. The annual cost for printing the yearbook is
approximately $6000.00. Advanced Yearbook purchases are $25. Late
Yearbook purchases are $30.
ATHLETICS
Various coaches
are responsible for the athletic program. Our school currently
participates in football, , girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball,
softball and baseball.
BAND
Our band direction is under the
supervision of Jeff Hogan. Mr. Hogan directs the beginning bands through
the high school marching and concert bands. Beginning band age is the
sixth grade. Mr. Hogan holds band instrument try-outs at the beginning of
each school year. An instrument purchase is usually required.
BOY AND GIRL SCOUTS
Boy and Girl Scouts are a part
of nearly every neighborhood. Boy and Girl Scouts meet after school and
usually off school grounds.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
CHEERLEADERS
Cheerleaders are sponsored by
Tiffani Dodd and Amelia Childers. The cheerleaders hold try-outs in March
or April each year for the following school year. Cheerleaders are
required to attend summer practices and summer camp. They are also
required to purchase uniforms and accessories as well as camp costs. Fund
Raisers are held to off set some of the expenses. Cheerleaders perform at
all Basketball and Football Games.
JUNIOR BETA CLUB
The Junior Beta Club is
sponsored by Jennifer Talton. Junior Beta Club members maintain an A
average and are recognized by the National Beta Club. Potential Beta Club
members undergo an Induction Ceremony in May for the next school year.
INDIAN EDUCATION
Students who can prove that
they are from an Ethnic American Indian Background are entitled to special
Indian Education Classes. These classes are held once a week during the
first semester of school. The classes are taught by Linda Williams and
Becky Jones.
NEWSPAPER STAFF
PEER MEDIATORS
Peer Mediation is sponsored by
our Counselor, Betsy Koger. Student's are selected to go through a
training process held by the
SCHOLARS BOWL
Scholars Bowl is a selection of
students who compete county wide answering questions by means of a buzzer
system. They compete with various knowledge based questions in history,
science, math and language arts. Lois Wood is the Scholar's Bowl sponsor.
STUDENT
COUNCIL
Student Council is sponsored by
Mickey Lockard. Student Council members are elected by the student body
each year. They are government representatives of our school.
Student Council host events such as Middle School Homecoming activities and 8th
Grade Graduation Ceremonies.
GURLEY
COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER (GCLC) GCLC’s
Project Coordinator is Pam Berry. This is an after school program that provides
extended day services with clubs and activities. GCLC develops appropriate
academic, social and emotional skills for pre-kindergarten through eight grade
students.

PARENT VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATIONS
BOOSTER CLUB
The Booster Club is made up of
parents whose children are involved with athletics and cheerleading. The
Booster Club members are responsible for running the concession stands at home
ball games. They are also involved in fundraising for the athletic members to help
purchase team uniforms and supplies. Booster club members also plan and
organize the Annual Athletic and Cheerleading Banquets.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT TEAM
Each year, parents and various
emergency management members from the community meet to review the policies and
procedures for the school in the event of a community crisis. Parent
representatives are picked at random by the team and Principal to help evaluate
these protocols.
NURSES
CLINIC/ RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS
Our school is fortunate to have
a full time Registered Nurse, Jenni Jones. However, she requests that
parents become involved. Red Cross Volunteers are trained in CPR and
basic first aide and hold current certification. Red Cross Volunteers are
asked to staff the clinic when the nurse will not be available.
PTA
The Parent Teacher Association
holds annual membership drives at the beginning of each school year.
Please visit their web page for additional information. PTA works in conjunction
with the school to raise needed funds. Some of the past fund raising
activities include the Annual Fall Festival, the Annual Pumpkin Run, and
Antique Car Shows. In addition the PTA has held activities such
as Kindergarten Graduation, Teacher Appreciation Luncheons and Breakfast.
PARENT TUTORS
Parent Tutors are sponsored and
organized by Betsy Koger, our Counselor. Parents volunteer to tutor children
one on one on a weekly basis while the student is at the school.
