Artifact: Assessment Rubric
The assessment rubric was used to evaluate students when their “Multisimplicity” web quest was completed. The rubric was given to the students prior to the web quest and the students used it as checklist to make sure they were not leaving out any part of the project. This assessment was developed before the process part of the process part of the web quest was developed. Evidence shows that on condition that abstract models in multimedia programs help learners in their ability to understand new concepts. Instructional design includes strategies such as scaffolding and assessment in context of learning, and cooperative learning. Using a rubric along with the cooperative groups the students worked in to complete this project fostered the multiple intelligences of the students involved.
Interpersonal skills were demonstrated in this project because they were in a situation where then needed to be able to work together in order to get the job completed. Many skills from the Alabama Course of Study were demonstrated among those were; being able to follow written directions, understanding place value, multiplication, addition, and regrouping.
Proposition #1 - Teachers are committed to students and their learning.
Upon finding the web quest on the internet, I quickly found that the rubric that went with the web quest was not one that was beneficial to my students. I determined that I could use the web quest and develop my own rubric to be used. This was my students benefited from having someone who knows their needs develop an assessment just for them.
Proposition #2 – Teachers know the subject they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
To develop a rubric a teacher must have knowledge in the subject the rubric is covering. Teachers must understand what behavior and skills are necessary to complete the project in order to develop an assessment tool such as a rubric. To assess such a project teachers must make sure students have the necessary skills to perform in the project.
Proposition #3 – Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
This rubric is an example of being accomplished in the ability to assess students individually as well as groups. Rubrics are another way to measure student growth and understanding and are a wonderful resource when explaining to parents the way such knowledge was measured.
Through the development of this rubric and the implementation of the web quest that I found I realized that although this web quest does have potential for a great project but was not something of which my students benefited. Next year’s class will benefit from this discovery because I have decided through developing a rubric for my own class that I can make my own web quest to go with it. I love using rubrics to assess students because I feel it puts everyone on a equal playing field, especially if I know my students and their needs. Parents love rubrics because their students know ahead of time what is expected of them. I have used a few rubrics this year and am already gathering materials for next year so I can get started this summer laying the foundation for other rubrics to be used beginning in August.
