The library is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on school days.



Common-sense Library Rules
  • Bugs are bad for books, so no eating, drinking or chewing gum in the library, please. Leave all foodstuffs with your bookbags on the shelves by the door as you come in.
  • Students with coursework always have priority over all other computer uses.
  • Others are working, so use a quiet tone of voice.
   Buckhorn students may check out up to four library books at a time. Most materials will be due back two weeks from the date of checkout, but can be renewed if no one else is waiting for them. Newspapers and magazines are available for consultation in the library.


    Mrs. Stephens has been the librarian at Buckhorn High School since January 2003. She is a native Huntsvillian, and graduated from Grissom High School. She went to college at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and graduate school at U.A.H. and the University of Alabama. She has a B.A. in Art and Art History, an M.A. in English, and an M.L.I.S. in Library and Information Science. Students can come to the library at any time to browse for materials for leisure reading or assignments. Teachers schedule class time to bring their students to the library for research as well. Mrs. Stephens especially enjoys helping students find and evaluate the information they need. Mrs. Stephens also likes to help students work with technology, and she is the sponsor of Buckhorn's ACTE team, where students compete in multimedia and web design.     Mrs. Ricketts is the library assistant at Buckhorn High School. She has been with the Madison County School System since January 2001. She is a graduate of Flintville High School in Flintville, Tennessee, and is a native Huntsvillian. Mrs. Ricketts also assists in the attendance office at Buckhorn High School when needed.
   She is an avid sports fan. She and her husband, attend several NASCAR races each year! Mrs. Ricketts has two children; both are graduates of Buckhorn High School. "It's a pleasure to work in such a great library with a fantastic view!" -Mrs. Ricketts.

We have ten PCs (5 Windows 98, 5 Windows XP) for student use.

Search Station software:

  • Athena automated library catalog
  • Accelerated reader

  • Check out an online version of the Accelerated Reader quiz list with reading levels and point values.
  • Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access Publisher).

Output:

  • Color printouts are 50 cents per page and must be made from staff computers
  • Black & white printouts or photocopies 10 cents per page
